Lonicera similis var. delavayi, commonly known as Delavay honeysuckle, is a vigorous and beautifully fragrant climber that brings long‑lasting summer interest to walls, pergolas and arbours. From June through to September it produces a generous display of tubular, cream‑coloured flowers that age to soft yellow, filling the air with a wonderfully sweet perfume that is particularly notable in the evenings and overnight. Loved by bees and other pollinators, these fragrant blooms also attract wildlife while adding a sensory dimension to garden spaces.
This semi‑evergreen variety retains glossy green foliage in mild conditions, providing year‑round structure and form. Its vigorous but manageable growth habit can be trained up supports or allowed to create a softly arching mound when grown as a shrub. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its performance, resilience and ornamental qualities, Delavay honeysuckle thrives in fertile, moist but well‑drained soil in full sun or light shade.
