Clematis ‘Olympia’ is a beautifully compact and colourful clematis, perfectly suited to smaller gardens, patios and container planting. Flowering from June through to September, this easy-going climber produces a steady succession of generous blooms along the stems and from leaf axils, ensuring colour is well distributed rather than concentrated at the tips. Each flower emerges in rich blue-purple tones with a subtle rose bar through the centre of the petals, before gradually softening to a lighter shade of blue as the blooms mature. The single to semi-double flowers overlap elegantly, surrounding a contrasting boss of creamy-yellow anthers that adds extra depth and interest.
Rarely exceeding 150cm in height, ‘Olympia’ is ideal for trellis, obelisks or smaller supports where space is limited. It performs particularly well in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil, and is loved by bees and other pollinators throughout the summer months. A refined, reliable clematis that delivers colour without overwhelming its surroundings.
