One of the most enjoyable things you can do in the garden is to feed the birds with high quality bird food or bird seed. It’s such a delight watching them and it’s good to know you’re giving nature a helping hand. When I first started to feed the birds in my garden there were a few different feeds available from the garden centres. Recently, when I counted there were more than 22 to choose from, and the quality of some of them, quite frankly, was dreadful. That’s why I decided to develop my own, a top quality bird food to attract more birds to the garden and to feed them better.
Bird Food with a Difference
- Attracts more birds. My special mix of 13 natural ingredients has been chosen to attract birds with different bill sizes. Recently, I was delighted to hear from a lovely customer told me that my bird food had helped her attract 44 different species of birds to her garden last year.
- Feed them better. Every single ingredient has been chosen for its goodness. Sunflower hearts are a rich source of oils and proteins, the suet pellets are a fast acting source of energy (a form of super-food loved by all birds, especially robins) and oyster grit provides a natural source of calcium which is essential for the fledglings during the spring and summer breeding seasons. Other ingredients include kibbles peanuts, nyger seed and dried mealworms.
- 100% free of wheat flakes. A cheap filler used in many bird food mixes that has no nutritional benefit and is included, even in some expensive mixes, to pad out the proper ingredients. If you’re buying a bag at the Garden Centre, check the contents panel on the back, as some bird foods contain up to 50% wheat flakes!
- No waste. All of the seeds can be eaten, there are no husks on the sunflower seeds for instance. If any of the seeds fall to the ground and aren’t eaten by the ground feeding birds, the hedgehogs may eat it as they love the bird food too!
- Use all year round. The high energy food is especially important for the birds during the winter as well as the spring and summer breeding periods when raising their young.

What’s special about this bird food?
Most bird foods contain a few ingredients. This contains 13, each one chosen for its goodness. It’s totally free of wheat flakes, a cheap, non-nutritious filler found in many bird foods. And it’s extra high in energy, with up to four times more energy than ordinary bird foods.
How does it attract more birds?
The feed contains a variety of varying sized seeds, from tiny niger seed to plump red dari. Birds have different size bills so the different size seeds appeal to different size birds. One customer recorded 44 different species of birds visiting her garden while using our bird food.
Why is it no mess?
All of the seeds can be eaten by the birds so they don’t waste time and energy removing the seed coats. Many bird foods contain black sunflower seeds need to the black seed coats to get to the goodness inside. And they drop the seed coats on the ground, making a mess. Our feed contains sunflower hearts with no seed coats so the birds can eat them whole.
I’m worried about bird food falling to the ground and the food attracting mice
Birds can sometimes drop seeds as they are feeding, or seeds can fall out of the feeder if it’s knocked or blown by strong winds. The easy solution is to buy a special saucer which fixes to the base of the feeder ( we sell one). Any seeds falling seeds land in this tray rather than fall onto the ground and the birds will happily feed from this tray. The alternative to buying a special saucer is to fix a standard plant pot saucer to the base of the feeder, but drill a few holes in it first for drainage in wet weather.
Some seed has fallen to the ground and is growing
This can occasionally happen with most bird foods if the seed falls onto bare, moist soil and the conditions are favourable. Fixing a saucer to the base of the feeder ( as described above ) will prevent this, and the saucer acts as an extra feeding point for the birds.
The bird food hasn’t attracted any birds.
If a new feeder has been used, it can take at least a week for birds to get used to seeing the feeder before they start to use it. If the food is being used in an existing feeder and isn’t attracting birds, then it could be that the birds have noticed and are worrying about a predator, like a cat, who may have started to patrol the area around the feeder. It could be that moving the feeder will help.

I have a RSPB bird table that is adjustable. I set it as only small birds can get on and everything goes no seed left at end off the day. Any seed that is thrown on the ground is also cleared up by larger birds. I have no problem with seeds sprouting. Best seed I have ever used. I only put one cup off seed per day.other seeds I used were left and caused weed problems.
