Philadelphus, commonly known as mock orange, is a delightful deciduous shrub grown for its highly fragrant summer flowers. While some can grow tall, unruly and be shy to flower, Philadelphus Belle Etoile is a brilliant garden performer. In June and July, plants are smothered with highly fragrant, large, single, cup-shaped white flowers with a yellow centre with splashes of purple. The delicious fresh, orange-blossom fragrance is particularly prominent during warm summer evenings. Plants are compact and well behaved, making them perfect for even the smallest of gardens.
