Lettuce Lollo Rossa originated in Italy, but this attractive lettuce has become a firm favourite in British salad bowls. It forms a loose ball-shape of leaves that boast beautifully-flavoured, bright green leaves with frilly, crimson edges. These not only look great on the dinner table, but also add an ornamental touch to the veg patch. It’s a versatile loose-leaved lettuce that can be treated as a cut-and-come-again crop, removing a few leaves as and when needed, or harvested whole. Sow from mid-March to July to harvest from May to October.
This variety, together with all the other varieties in our RHS AGM Veg Seed Collection, have been awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society. Such plants have been awarded this accolade after testing and assessment by the society, and is only given to plants that have proved to have excellent garden performance and worth growing.
