Imagine popping out into your garden and picking the freshest, tastiest strawberries, raspberries and blueberries you’ve ever eaten. Well, it’s possible and it’s easy to grow your own soft fruit at home. We’ve put together our Soft Fruit Collection of five brilliant varieties that will produce fruit over several months in the summer.
Strawberry Vibrant produces beautifully shaped, conical, uniform red berries. It is an early cropping variety, producing fruit in early to mid-June. It is heavy cropping, producing a large number of trusses with four or five fruit on each truss.
Strawberry Malwina is one of the best late season varieties producing large, dark red, glossy berries in July and even into August/early September. They have a lovely aroma, exceptionally high Brix reading (sugar content) and a really excellent flavour. It’s very popular with PYO farms.
You will receive 10 cold-stored runners (young plants) of each variety. These have been “fooled” into thinking they’ve had the spell of cold weather necessary to initiate flowering and can start fruiting 60 days after planting. This summer you could crop up to 100g per plant, next summer you could get up to 500g or more per plant!
Raspberry Glen Carron is all about flavour, as this variety always performs well in blind taste tests. It is an early to mid-season variety, cropping for at least four weeks from June and into July. The bright red, traditionally shaped conical berries are very sweet with a low level of acidity. It’s a delightful, ‘must grow’ raspberry. Fruit is easy to pick and lasts well after picking.
Raspberry Enrosadira produces large, attractive, bright red berries with an outstanding, aromatic flavour. They have a good firmness and last well once picked. It is a very versatile variety and can be grown to produce a large later summer/early autumn crop or smaller crops throughout summer until the first frosts. Fruit is easy to pick and keeps well after picking.
You’ll receive three jumbo plug (5cm) plants of each variety.
Blueberry Bluecrop is one of the most reliable croppers. A mid-season variety producing high yields of large fruit, ready to pick in mid-summer, full of taste and flavour and packed with antioxidants. Your blueberry plant may produce a small crop in its first year, but will crop reliably and heavily from then on for many years. Expect about 3kg (6½lb) from a mature bush each year.
You’ll receive one plant in a 1.5-litre pot.
