Don’t let the diminutive size of Muscari azureum, the azure grape hyacinth, put you off. This mini wonder has fabulous flower power, producing dainty, dense clusters of small, bell-shaped, pale blue flowers, each with a darker central stripe, in March/April. As you might expect with the name hyacinth, these are also delightfully, heavily scented.
Grape hyacinths are also fabulous for attracting and feeding bees and other pollinators when other food sources in the garden may be scarce.
Like most bulbs, grape hyacinths are very easy to grow and come back year after year. Plant in sunny positions where they will receive some summer shade – such as under shrubs – or partial or light shade in the ground or in containers.
Unlike some other grape hyacinths, this one doesn’t become invasive.
The large bulbs are guaranteed to flower in their first year.
Height up to 12.5cm (5in).
All our plants come with full cultural and growing instructions, which can also be downloaded here. See Growing Guide tab above.
