There are lots of different planting additives on the market. Root Booster is formulated from three special ingredients used and trusted by professional gardeners. It’s 100% natural and can help any gardener grow healthier, bigger and better plants. Root Booster works for any outdoor plants including all flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs.
- Formulated with naturally occurring HUMATES. When you water plants, or when it rains, some nutrients will wash out of the soil or compost and are lost to your plants. Root Booster granules absorb some of these, otherwise lost, nutrients and, over time, gradually release them back to the plant’s roots. In this way, they can make any plant food, including Flower Power Premium Plant Food, more effective.
- Plus naturally occurring MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI. These work in conjunction with the plant’s roots to help them absorb more water and nutrients. Remarkably, mycorrhizal fungi can help root systems become up to 200 times more effective. Mycorrhizal fungi are used by commercial gardeners to help grow healthier plants.
- And natural starter fertiliser. This gentle mix of natural nutrients helps the root systems establish faster in the first few weeks after planting.

FAQs
Can I use Root Booster for already established plants?
While it’s easier to use and more effective on new plants, you can use it with existing plants. It’s important to get it close to the roots. While you can spread it over the rooting area and lightly fork it in – without damaging the plant roots – it’s better to make a small channel in the soil or compost, about 5cm/2in deep, around the circumference of the plant. Draw an imaginary line from the tips of the outermost stems to ground level and this is where to make the channel. Then sprinkle in the Root Booster and cover it over with soil or compost.
Can Root Booster be used with all plants?
Yes, Root Booster can be used with all plants – including ericaceous, lime-hating, acid-loving ones.
Can Root Booster be used with vegetable plants?
Yes, Root Booster can be used with all vegetable plants.
Can I use Root Booster when sowing seeds?
Yes, you can use Root Booster when sowing seeds in the ground. Mix it with the soil where you intend to sow. But when sowing in pots, it’s far better to use it when you plant out the young plants.
I’ve just opened a tub of Root Booster that I bought several months ago and it’s mouldy. Is this normal and is it still safe to use?
This can sometimes happen with Root Booster because of the organic materials it contains. However, it does not affect its effectiveness and it can still be used safely with your plants.
How long does it take Root Booster to become effective?
Most of the ingredients in Root Booster are very soluble. So, as long as the soil or compost is kept moist, they will dissolve, be absorbed by the plant roots and get to work more-or-less straight away.
Can I use Root Booster and Flower Power Premium Plant Feed together?
Root Booster is used at planting time to improve root growth and get plants off to the best possible start. But once established and growing, you will still need to feed with Flower Power Premium Plant Food at the normal rate stated on the container.
Can I use Root Booster and Container Magic together?
Yes, you can. Root Booster and Container Magic are two completely different products, containing different ingredients and so they do different things.
Root Booster contains:
Humates: to boost root growth and to help fertilisers work more effectively.
Seaweed extract: a natural plant bio-stimulant to improve growth and strengthen plants.
Special plant food: to gently boost root growth in the first few weeks after potting up.
Container Magic contains:
Water-storing crystals to reduce the amount of watering needed.
Controlled-release booster plant food granules that are released over the first 5/6 weeks after planting to help the plants establish.
Mycorrhizal fungi, naturally occurring fungi that enable the plants to absorb more nutrients and water, so they grow better.
Is Root Booster safe for pets? One of my dogs has eaten some.
There is nothing that we know of in Root Booster that can harm dogs or any other animals. It contains three naturally-occurring ingredients: humates, which are naturally-occurring materials found in humus; seaweed extract; plant fertiliser.
We have had one instance of this before, and that person took their dog to the vet, who reported there was no harm done. But, if you are still worried, you may want to contact your vet.

I had been an avid user of Richard Jackson’s root booster for many years & it’s an excellent product. It works on new plants & top dressing of existing plants.
However there seems to be something in this new blend that attracts the foxes ! Every time I plant up anything with R/J Root Booster the foxes dig everything up & tear the plants to pieces !! I am left with nothing ! I have resorted to planting without root booster at the moment & I hope there will be a change in the manufacturing process so I can purchase a new batch . I would be interested in some feedback please ?

Use a little of this in the planting hole to give your plants the boost they need at this crucial time. I have been using this for a couple of years and it produces excellent results. You can also use it to top-dress existing plants.

Much prefer using root booster to using microrhyzal fungi alone. I tend to mix with my potting on compost and the results are stunning for my hanging baskets(@30). Wouldn’t use anything else.

Root Booster is the best. Used it for years. My sister who is a keen gardener cannot understand why my plants are so big, virtually twice the size of hers.
