The grubs of the vine weevil beetle are very destructive garden pests. They live in the soil/compost and eat the roots of a wide range of plants, causing the plants to wilt and die.
Using Vine Weevil Control Nematodes, an organic biological control based on the microscopic nematodes Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, is a quick, easy and effective way of controlling them. It can be used around all plants, including edible crops.
When applied to the soil or compost, these naturally-occurring parasitic nematodes search out vine weevil grubs and stop them feeding. Once the vine weevil grub is dead, they search out further grubs and repeat the process. Nematodes give long-term protection against vine weevil grubs.
They are effective at a soil temperature range between 12-30C (54-86F). They can be applied from March to October, and are most effective in April and September. For minor problems, one spring or September treatment should be adequate. For a more serious infestation, treat in the spring, again in autumn and even summer.
Vine Weevil Control Nematodes are available from April to September. Once the product is available, it will be despatched on Tuesdays, for delivery on Wednesday with Royal Mail.
Vine Weevil Control Nematodes should be applied as soon as you receive them. If you can’t apply them straight away, you can keep them in a fridge for up to 10 days.
These nematodes are specific to vine weevil grubs, they have no effect on other garden wildlife, are safe to use around people, and are safe for the environment.
There are two sizes: to treat up to 10sq m (12sq yd) or 25 2-litre pots and up to 100sq m (120sq yd) or 250 2-litre pots; please select which size you need. They come complete with full instructions. Item will be delivered in April 2021 or when the soil temperature is above 12C.
