Five fab container plants

Transform your garden, large or small with some fantastic, flower-filled garden containers. Plan your pots now and be ready for planting as soon as the weather warms up.

Container plants really need to earn their place in your pots and planters. When space is at a premium you want maximum impact for every inch of your pot. After years of intensive plant breeding there are some real container stars available to add colour, drama and wonder to your garden. Perfect for window boxes, hanging baskets and patio pots, they are ideal for terraces, balconies and small gardens and with a little care and attention will flower all summer long. For the very best results keep frost free, well watered and feed regularly with Flower Power to keep your plants blooming.

Here are five real beauties to look out for this season. Each variety would look fantastic on its own in one container, or plant them all together to create a magical effect. Don’t miss the TSV on QVC Richard Jackson’s Garden on Saturday 4 February 2017 when you can buy all five varieties and the pots together to achieve this wonderful effect. You won’t be disappointed.

Petunia Surfinia ‘Purple’

Petunia Surfinia ‘Purple’:

This stunner holds the RHS AGM and for good reasons. It’s the first, original and best variety of this trailing petunia. The plants are smothered in rich purple trumpets all summer long, with an attractive tumbling habit, ideal for baskets or the edges of your planters.  It’s pretty unbeatable in terms of performance and an excellent choice for your containers this summer.

Nemesia ‘Aroma Banana and Cream’

Nemesia ‘Aroma Banana and Cream’:

This is a Chelsea Gold Medal Winner, bred by UK breeders over 20 years to achieve this stunning colour and intoxicating scent. Plants are covered with soft creamy white and yellow bicolor flowers that are produced all summer long. Fill a basket or mix with your other container plants for a stunning effect.

Bacopa ‘Secrets XXL White’

Bacopa ‘Secrets XXL White’:

This little beauty has large, pure white flowers with rich green foliage, but it is the way that the stems branch and bud that sets it apart from the rest. It is quite literally the biggest and best on the market, a real giant variety that fantastically performs with amazing flower power; you won’t be disappointed.

Verbena ‘Voodoo Red Star’

Verbena ‘Voodoo Red Star’:

Track down this stunning and unique flower colour that makes a brilliant addition to any garden display.  Verbena ‘Voodoo Red Star’ forms dozens of clusters of bright red flowers with a soft white central star. It has pretty olive green foliage and the plants grow in mounded cushions with a slightly trailing habit. Plant into containers for dramatic impact and place them in a sunny spot. Feed well with Flower Power for the very best results.

Calibrachoa ‘Celebration Neon Rose’

Calibrachoa ‘Celebration Neon Rose’:

This little plant has more flower power than pretty much anything of comparable size. One of the million bells, it has fabulous neon pink flowers and is literally covered in colour or summer. The rich pink flowers have a buttery yellow centre and the plants have a good shape, ideal for hanging baskets. It’s a truly fabulous choice for your garden this summer.
